Overview
The Leybold VARODRY VD 160 is a high-capacity, oil-free dry screw vacuum pump designed for demanding industrial applications where clean, reliable and low-maintenance vacuum is required. Delivering approximately 155 m³/h (91 CFM) of pumping speed with an ultimate pressure below 0.01 mbar, the VD 160 provides an excellent balance of pumping capacity, compact installation and operating efficiency.
The 230/460 V, 60 Hz, three-phase configuration uses a 3.0 kW motor and forced-air cooling, eliminating the need for cooling water while completely removing vacuum oil from the compression process. This eliminates routine oil changes and oil disposal while preventing oil backstreaming and reducing the risk of process contamination associated with conventional oil-sealed pumps.
The robust dry-screw design provides excellent capability for industrial processes involving moisture and condensable vapours, with a water-vapour capacity of approximately 5.2 kg/h with gas ballast. The VD 160 is ideally suited to large vacuum chambers, heat-treatment furnaces, industrial drying, degassing, PVD and coating systems, battery manufacturing, industrial cleaning, composite processing and other production applications requiring clean, oil-free vacuum.
This configuration is supplied without the optional purge gas module, making it an economical choice for applications that do not require continuous purge protection. For oxygen service or processes involving particularly aggressive or reactive gases, the appropriate purge or HD/O₂ configuration should be evaluated.
The VARODRY VD 160 provides a compelling alternative to conventional oil-sealed pumps when you need high pumping speed while eliminating vacuum oil, reducing maintenance and improving process cleanliness.
The VD 160 delivers 155 m³/h of clean, oil-free industrial vacuum without the oil changes, oil disposal and cooling-water requirements associated with conventional vacuum pumps.
